  • TL-2 Online + Supplements – Online edition, provided through the Biodiversity Heritage Library, of the c. 10 000 pages of  "Taxonomic Literature, 2nd edition", the standard reference work for plant taxonomic literature from Linnean times to 1940. Seven volumens by Frans A. Stafleu (1921-1997) and Richard S. Cowan (1921-1997) published between 1973 and 1988, plus six supplements by Frans Stafleu and Erik Mennega (1923-1998) to the letters A-E published between 1992 and 2000, and two supplememnts by L.J. Dorr and Dan H. Nicolson to the letters F-G published 2008-2009.

  • Kew Bibliographic Databases"The Kew Bibliographic Databases is a combined searching tool giving you access to three bibliographic databases: KR - The Kew Record of Taxonomic Literature (over 200,000 publications relating to the taxonomy of flowering plants, gymnosperms and ferns from 1971 onward), PMBD - the Plant Micromorphological Bibliographic Database (over 90,000 references to publications and is probably the most comprehensive computerised index to higher plant micromorphology in existence) and EBBD - the Economic Botany Bibliographic Database (33,000 references to publications relating to the uses by humans of flowering plants, gymnosperms and ferns).

  • PubMed – "a service of the National Library of Medicine, includes over 15 million citations for biomedical articles back to the 1950's".

  • Guide to the plant species descriptions published in seed lists from Botanic Gardens for the period 1800-1900"Electronic and interactive guide [by Cees Lut in ccoperation with Jan Frits Veldkamp, National Herbarium Nederland] to descriptions of new plant species published in seed lists." "Botanical Gardens have produced for a long time annual seed lists for exchange. In some European ones of the 19th century it was customary to include diagnoses, descriptions, and notes either in footnotes or in appendices. These lists were printed in a very limited edition and past issues generally were not kept." This site makes available, "the original descriptions in a searchable database, with the title page of the seed list and its date of publication or an estimate thereof, and the current nomenclatural status of these names (but not their present taxonomic identity)".

  • BioLIS – Biologische Literatur-Information Senckenberg – "Die Datenbank BioLIS  weist biologische Zeitschriftenliteratur aus dem Zeitraum 1970 bis 1996 nach. Sie ist zweisprachig angelegt (deutsch/englisch) und umfaßt Zeitschriften und Serien aus Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz." "BioLIS weist über 75.000 Artikel aus biologischen Zeitschriften und Reihen nach. Insgesamt wurden über 1.000 verschiedene Zeitschriften und Reihen ausgewertet".

  • Electronic Sites of Leading Botany, Plant Biology and Science Journals"links to journals in which articles concerning plant biology are published. The sites will almost always have a Tables of Contents available free and may frequently have selected articles, or the entire text online".

  • The Index to American Botanical Literature "has provided a service to the American botanical community for over a century ... The Index is compiled from resources of The LuEsther T. Mertz Library of The New York Botanical Garden and contains entries dealing with various aspects of extant and fossil American plants and fungi, including systematics (traditional and molecular) and floristics, morphology, and ecology, as well as economic botany and general botany (publications dealing with botanists, herbaria, etc.). The searchable database includes all those entries published in the Index since 1996, and thus includes botanical literature appearing since late 1995. The database is updated on a regular basis. Retroactive indexing of previously published entries is envisioned."

  • Recent Literature on Lichens "is a series published in The Bryologist, a journal of The American Bryological and Lichenological Society. The series aims at listing all recently published papers in lichenology, with a complete bibliographic reference, keywords, and abstract - including mention of all new scientific names and combinations.

  • Die Literaturdatenbank zur Vegetationsökologie Mitteleuropas  der Universitätsbibliothek Braunschweig weist "wissenschaftliche Veröffentlichungen zur Flora und Vegetation Mitteleuropas nach. ... Der Schwerpunkt liegt bislang auf der Bundesrepublik Deutschland; die Erfassung der einschlägigen Veröffentlichungen über Österreich, Schweiz, Norditalien und Slovenien ist vorgesehen".

  • Bibliography of Dendrochronology "is a free searchable archive of printed documents relevant to tree-ring research worldwide. It was compiled and is  updated yearly by Henri D. Grissino-Mayer. It currently contains 14,341 references dating back to 1737".

Urs Eggli and the BCSS (Bradleya editor, Gordon Rowley) have kindly given permission for reproduction of this work on-line. Subsequent additions and ammendments have been supplied by Urs Eggli, Gordon Rowley and Len Newton in Bradleya 5/1987 and Bradleya 7/1989 and these are now included."
